I have a question about garage planning. Our garage will have a smooth concrete slab floor, and the walls will be made of 24 cm (9.5 inches) brick. In our current garage, we have the problem that the paint and plaster are gradually peeling off in some areas near the floor. This is most likely caused by salt used in winter.
For the new garage, I would like to avoid this issue from the start. How could this be achieved?

We are facing the same issue. Our current garage has no sealing—just a screed floor. As a result, rainwater or small amounts of snow melt dripping from the car are absorbed slightly by the screed. The garage remains very dry, and we do not have any moisture problems, not even on the walls that are underground.
My father sealed his garage floor two or three years ago. Now he has the issue that rainwater and small piles of snow stay on the sealed surface. Of course, it is completely waterproof. This means he has to wipe or mop the water out of the garage every time.
Since there will be no floor drain in our garage, we will probably not apply any sealing in the new garage either.
