Bertram1006 Sep 2020 08:07Hello forum,
I am currently considering the best way to combine an insect screen and an external sunshade. A framed insect screen usually protrudes slightly outward. How can a sunshade still be installed in this case? And what type of sunshade should be used: roller shutters or sunscreens? Or is there another option?
How have you solved the issue of insect screens combined with sunshades?

Bertram1006 Sep 2020 08:24Do you mean by additionally mounting that the fly screen is simply placed underneath the roller shutters? Or does it roll together with them? I have found a "double" roller shutter where the fly screen has its own roller and can be pulled down separately from the sunshade.
We have external roller shutters, which include an integrated fly screen roller blind. Naturally, it can be used separately and works very well. Down in summer, up in winter.
With venetian blinds, it would be difficult due to the space required; on the windows, we have clip-on frames.

Nice-Nofret6 Sep 2020 19:02We decided on fixed fly screens that hook into the window frame; they stay in place all year round since there is still a lot of insects around throughout the year, especially during the mild winters.
We could have integrated the insect screens directly into the window frame on the outside, so they could have been used like a second roller blind. However, when we tried this, we were not convinced at all. Something kept getting stuck, or they would only roll down jerkily. For us, this clearly indicated a guaranteed malfunction after some use.
We have now decided to have custom-made solutions installed for the sliding door and terrace door on the ground floor. Our parents-in-law did the same, and the results are really great.
For the other windows, we will equip them as needed with hook-and-loop tape and screens from the hardware store.
