Fragenasker23 Feb 2021 10:19Hello,
We are looking for mosquito/insect/fly screens for the windows of our single-family house (Schüco, plastic frames, mostly about 1x1m (3x3 ft)). So far, we have always bought poor-quality products for our apartment, usually nets that you stick onto the window frame. These either did not stick properly or tore (for some reason) after a few months.
Can you recommend, based on your own experience, any products that
1. offer good value for money (a company near us charges €180 per window for plastic mesh)
2. are durable (possibly thin stainless steel or aluminum mesh?)
3. are easy to install (we have no DIY skills)?

In our old house, we had both types: high-quality in the rooms and DIY discount-store materials in the basement, both clamp-based.
The DIY material warped and became floppy but was still manageable,
while the high-quality one was taken in and out regularly for over 10 years, with one fall from the upper floor onto the terrace—everything stayed fine.
Use stainless steel only with a safety catch,
the black plastic looks better.

We had custom-made sturdy aluminum frames with good mesh; for the basement windows and pantry, they are mouse-proof with wire mesh. They were not exactly cheap, but after 10 years they still look like new.

We had 10 custom-made fly screens fitted by the carpenter. They fit perfectly and come with a sturdy metal frame that hooks into the window. Cost: approximately 1,300€. However, we had a small additional charge due to the color (RAL 9010).
The simplest option would probably be to install Velcro strips on the windows. I once had that in a rented apartment (from long ago...).

I have had very good experiences with fly screens from KoriTec. They come made to measure, either fully assembled or as kits for self-assembly (but you do need to work carefully). Some have now been hanging for 7 years.
In my opinion, the high-quality ones are worth every cent.
And yes, 100 EUR for a screen is a normal price.
