Hello,
above the ceiling of the upper floor, our house has a so-called cold attic space with a height of only 1.30 m (4 ft 3 in) at the ridge, intended only as a large storage room (about 120 m² (1,292 ft²)).
The insulation (220 mm (8.7 inches)) is placed directly on the ceiling above the upper floor, and we only noticed today that there is no floor. Walking and sliding boxes on the insulation is certainly not ideal.
What would be recommended for this? It should, of course, be as inexpensive as possible since we had not planned for this cost, and the space will rarely be used anyway.
Thanks in advance.

motorradsilke14 Jun 2022 18:28We used tongue-and-groove boards. This was recommended by the general contractor, as they are supposedly better than OSB panels. However, we didn’t cover the entire area with them, since we don’t need that much coverage. I got them quite cheaply from a sawmill, so they don’t have to be top quality.
Be careful about moisture. Friends covered the floor in their new build with OSB boards, and then the insulation started to develop mold. No idea whether the moisture from the living areas moved upwards or what exactly went wrong.

Air must be able to circulate between the floor and the insulation. If necessary, use battens to build up the height and create the required gap.We had a 6cm (2.4 inches) buildup done in the walkable area of the attic, and OSB boards (OSB is not a typo) were installed on top. Just look it up online.Similar topics
