Hello everyone,

Is it true that utility connections must be removed back to the street during a house demolition? What exactly is the procedure if I want to demolish an existing house, what do I need to consider, and how much time does the whole process usually take?

Where do I need to submit which applications, and how long does it take until the connections are disconnected and removed?

Thank you very much

With the utility providers.
The municipal works department has shut off the water (valve).
The electricity provider will disconnect and remove the meters and everything else.
I assume gas will be handled similarly.
For the telephone, the line at the house should simply be cut. It was still an old external line.

@motorradsilke Thanks for your explanation. Did you have to apply for disconnection of electricity, gas, etc. centrally at the authorities or individually with each provider? So, a lead time of 2 months should be sufficient.

I had to arrange everything individually with each provider, as they are separate in our area. However, I have read here that some places have centralized providers.
Gas was a bit tricky. It had to be done online, and the website didn’t mention that it actually takes about 8 weeks—this only became clear during the cancellation process. I wanted to wait until I knew the exact date, which caused a problem, but fortunately, it was resolved after many phone calls. So it’s best to call all providers in advance and ask how long they need.
Electricity disconnection is not allowed to be done by yourself; it must be handled by an electrician. For that, we only coordinated the cable route with the contracting company.

We didn’t have to do anything for the phone line because, luckily, our connection is located in the garage and remained active. They just extended a cable into the house.
