Hello

We are currently planning the renovation of our house. It has a solid basement with a prefabricated house from around 1970 built on top. Has anyone ever demolished a prefabricated house like this and have experience with it?

Best regards

I often hear that people want to leave the basement as is. Sometimes I think this is false hope to save a significant amount.

In my experience, it is still more of a well-kept secret than a new trend. The potential savings largely depend on the situation: in the case where a basement is still desired in the future, mainly as a utility and storage room, and the plot would also allow building without a basement, I consider the saving potential definitely worthwhile. For a walkout basement on a sloped site, the situation is correspondingly the opposite.

No offense, but that sounds like a DIY solution.

It was not meant personally for you. You joined this thread, so a response might fit the original poster but not necessarily you as well.

We have some current information.

Our basement will definitely remain and will be used as a granny flat / secondary apartment.

Regarding the demolition, it currently looks like there won’t be any company that can do it affordably. The whole house needs to be dismantled into individual parts. We will have to do that ourselves.

For now, we are waiting for our demolition and building permit / planning permission, and I will continue searching. Maybe we’ll find a company, although I don’t really believe it.

For us, the price has more than halved. Winter work can be done anytime, but it must be finished by April. Before that, it should be completed as quickly as possible this summer.

What do you mean? I don’t quite understand the context. Kind regards, Susi

Demolition carried out quickly in summer cost twice as much as stripping the interior in winter. The main thing is to be finished by April.
