we are planning an extension to our house (about 30 years old, built with aerated concrete in solid construction, on piles). We have freedom regarding the construction method and the design is still open. The extension will have a basement and 1.5 to 2 floors, depending on the roof shape. The existing house is currently only occupied on the ground floor; the roof cannot be converted because it is built with trusses and is too shallow, so it will likely remain storage space only. The building boundaries allow everything we wish for.
Since I now have the feeling that such an extension is almost like a small separate house, just connected to the existing one, which doesn’t make things any easier, we are looking for people who have had good experiences with construction companies on similar projects. Online you often find listings with standard houses, but when it comes to "extensions," I don’t get much further. Tips or experiences from other homeowners who are doing or have done something similar, as well as advice on how to best set up the planning and calculate the costs, would be fantastic. Literature or links to useful websites would also help us a lot.
