Hello everyone,
Our balcony protrudes from the house. It will be freestanding with a staircase and therefore requires four isolated footings (40cm x 40cm (16 inches x 16 inches)) and a strip footing (30cm x 100cm (12 inches x 39 inches)). For frost protection, the foundation depth should be 80cm (31 inches). Our excavation contractor initially estimated about 120€ per footing. After reconsidering, he now expects the total cost to be in the four-digit range (around 1000€).
We are building on a slope and need to backfill about 40cm (16 inches) of soil behind the house. I was a bit surprised that he first filled in soil in that area and now wants to dig it out again for the footings (why not just excavate 40cm, install the footings, and then backfill around them?).
Does anyone have an idea of a realistic price for the five footings? Or is 1000€ a fair amount?
Best regards,
tabaluga

Is the 1000 euros for one foundation or for all 5?
With 120 euros, you should just about cover the cost of the concrete alone.
Then you still have excavation, formwork, getting the concrete, and compaction.
That’s a few hours of work.
Overall, 1000 euros seems quite reasonable to me, though not overly expensive.

Thank you for your quick responses.
I have now spoken with the balcony contractor. He said that reinforcement is not necessary in our case (15 sqm (160 sq ft) balcony on posts). I have meanwhile received another quote, which is just under 700€ (all prices net). That sounds a bit better to me.
