Hi,
how much did your meter cabinets for the electrical equipment cost?
We just received the electrician’s quote, and the cabinet itself alone is supposed to cost €895 (without components). The total quote for the house amounts to €53,000 gross…

- The alarm system is simply very expensive – make sure to get multiple quotes for comparison.
- Data technology: 560 euros??? I once paid 250 euros for 500 meters (550 yards) of CAT7 cable, which might not even be enough for us. How many meters is the electrician including here? What kind of minimal network installation is this supposed to be?
- Central control for roller shutters: This is often at the top of wish lists – but why? Do you want to raise the shutters in your children’s rooms at the push of a button? It’s better to have group controls for individual rooms and a few time-controlled settings – think about that.
- Extra charge for switch materials: What special options did you choose? The surcharge is quite small but still listed?
- Satellite system is only partially eliminated by cable TV – you still need coaxial cables, splitters, and outlets there.

nordanney3 Jun 2015 11:18We also had to supply a 300 sqm (3,230 sq ft) floor area:
- Gira Event frames with colored inserts
- All windows with electric roller shutters (individually switchable, central switch on the ground floor, also controllable via home automation – smart home system (expandable to all switches), upper floor shutters operated with timers)
- Satellite system with eight receivers (we can also feed a cable signal through the distribution)
- At least four LAN outlets per room
- Plenty of power outlets (e.g., at least eight per children's room, ten outlets for TV/receiver/HTPC, etc.)
- Speaker wiring for surround sound including floor boxes
- Stair lighting at step level
- Video intercom system with two monitors (ground floor and upper floor)
- Separate power outlets in window reveals, timer-controlled (very expensive due to only 2 mm frame height), for decorative purposes (a woman's wish)
- Wiring for photovoltaic system
- Various ceiling spotlights in living room, kitchen, corridors, bathrooms, etc.
Cost just over € 20,000

@Lexmaul
- We have already chosen the switches; they are large push buttons with smaller frames compared to the standard ones.
- Data technology – I’m not exactly sure what that includes; I need to look it up.
- We will have venetian blinds, not roller shutters. We wanted one switch per floor to lower all blinds on that floor automatically. I thought it would be convenient for when we’re away over the weekend or going out in the evening. But it probably only makes sense for the ground floor. I also thought that when going to bed in the evening, you press the switch, and all the blinds on the ground floor go down.
So far, we have been living on the ground floor (though in a multi-family house) and have roller shutters, but we hardly ever lower them. Maybe automated control isn’t really worth it after all. A timer switch, not sure if that’s necessary.

- That sounds great! I also want sockets for decoration. Would you be willing to share your provider? N-V isn’t too far from Oberhausen.
