Hello everyone!

While trying to estimate our construction costs, I discovered thanks to the lists here in the forum that we were about to forget the driveway / entrance area!
As a reference, I found that one should expect around 10,000–15,000 Euros. Is this realistic for an area of about 66 sqm (710 sq ft)?
I know it’s difficult to give a specific price. If we say: simple concrete slabs / stones, area about 66 sqm (710 sq ft), in Upper Bavaria – could we say we are likely looking at a range between 10,000 and 15,000 Euros?

The same area is currently covered with old concrete. Do you have an idea how much removing it might cost?
(Assuming my husband doesn’t want to try out his new pneumatic hammer 🙂 )

Once we get that far, I will post the specific quotes we receive here.

If that’s not really something the size of a 12-year-old, I would strongly recommend having it done professionally!
Last summer, I broke up about 8m² (86 sq ft) of reinforced concrete slab roughly 20cm (8 inches) thick using a 50-joule hammer. Including debris removal, it took two long Saturdays, and unless you have a professional-grade tool costing several thousand dollars, you will curse the vibrations after just a few minutes.

An excavator would have cleared that in under two hours.

Oops. All of that times 8 in our case. So, an excavator is probably the better option for us too, thanks for the tip 🙂

We only cleared out the building.
For us, it included a residential house, barn, stable, and outbuildings.

Clearing the house and all the outbuildings took over a week, sometimes with four people working. Still, we had the night storage heaters removed by professionals. Carrying those heavy units intact down the old, steep staircase was not possible.

The gutting and preparation for demolition took the company about 2 to 2.5 weeks (sometimes with four workers). Putting the chimney in place, removing roof tiles, and taking down rafters required working without fear of heights. At that speed, we could never have removed pipes, wall and floor coverings, electrical cables, and windows ourselves.

Asbestos removal from the barn was done by a specialist company with a work platform (so the old roof didn’t have to be stepped on—no one knows how much load it could still bear).
Then the demolition excavator came in, and at that point, any private effort ends. Wood, steel, and debris were separated.

Even if you have less work and professionals come with heavy machinery and well-coordinated logistics, doing it yourself stops being cost-effective.

@haydee I just got dizzy reading it.. Luckily, at the moment, we only have to remove the old double garage and the concrete driveway 😀

I’ve now submitted a request for a quote on MyHammer – a company with good reviews is offering 8,400 net. So with around 10,000 plus demolition, we would theoretically be in range.
Has anyone here had experience with the “Hammer contractors”? This would be our first time...

That is less, especially if the area is not built upon. Does that include disposal?

My scope of work is "Paving private areas, excavating soil, creating the subbase, removing old paving stones, disposing of materials."
I need to check whether the contractor has actually read everything 🙂
