Good morning everyone,
I am planning a 6x3 meter (20x10 feet) tool shed behind my garage and need to apply for a building permit / planning permission.
According to the Osnabrück district regulations, I require a simplified building permit under §63 of the Lower Saxony Building Code.
My structural engineer has now completed the application and is asking for a hefty fee of 1400€ net.
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with this process and am looking for guidance here in the forum.

Is this price reasonable?
He visited the site once, prepared a construction description, created a cross-section A-A (and an elevation), marked the shed on the site plan, and completed the building permit application.
The cost seems quite high in relation to a tool shed...

Best regards,

The deal is already done. Prices are generally agreed upon before commissioning. And yes, it’s not cheap.

Since this person is an acquaintance of my father-in-law, there is probably some room to negotiate the price... Unfortunately, I don’t know what a reasonable amount would be, so I posted it here.

I have never met an architect who sees their prices as negotiable.

Call them and tell them you are already surprised by how high the bill turned out. Maybe they’re having a good day and will give you 200€ (about 220 USD) off.

Learn from this and clarify costs beforehand in the future.

For him, the price is reasonable; otherwise, he would have charged more.

1400€ for the application for a garden shed
In my opinion, exorbitant.
