On average, eight months pass in Germany between submitting the building permit application for your dream house and moving in.

Can anyone confirm this? I just read this "statistical value" (?) in a "home magazine" and I am curious about its accuracy. If this is true, that would be great. However, I have never heard or read this figure anywhere else.

Thank you.

In June, we submitted the building permit application / planning permission. It was approved in September. In November, the structural analysis was reviewed, and in February, the construction clearance was granted, and building started. We moved in August.

If you subtract three months for the building permit / planning permission from the total of eight months, that leaves five months for the entire construction. I think that is very short. Eight months from the permit approval seems more realistic to me.

The average time between submitting the building permit / planning permission application and receiving approval is about 3 months.

The construction company usually takes one month to start (unless they have no other projects), and building a house takes around 7 months... Viebrockhaus is faster with temporary tent structures, while others take longer.

As a general rule, I would estimate about one year if using a general contractor. With individual contracts, expect an additional six months to one year.

Less than a year from the submission of the building permit / planning permission is already quite fast.

Submitted at the end of May / beginning of June 2018, approved at the end of August 2018, groundwork and foundation slab completed by March 2019, move-in August 2019. For us, that means 14-15 months from submitting the building permit / planning permission application to moving in, roughly the same duration as the preceding planning phase.
