Hello forum community,

For our new build, we constructed an 11-step block staircase ourselves. We chose Diephaus steps in dark anthracite because we liked the look.

Unfortunately, after only six months, the staircase already looks far from attractive and is discolored. See attached photo. Does anyone know a trick to restore the steps to their dark color? A simple question, but is it even possible to paint something like this?

So far, we have tried:
- Neutral cleaner + brush
- Mellerud concrete intensive cleaner + brush

Best regards,
Sebastian

Gray stone stairs made of slabs, blue construction bucket on top, gravel around the steps.

There are concrete/cement-based paints. We used one to paint a concrete block step, and after almost six months it still looks freshly painted. Make sure to let it cure properly, then it becomes completely walk-on resistant. Even though we have only covered the paths with gravel so far and still track a lot of dirt around, there are no scratches or abrasion visible at all.

Alternative: 2K coating, as used for garage floors and similar surfaces.

Thanks @Fuchur, I’ll try the paint first.
Does anyone happen to have long-term experience with this? I’m not really keen on painting 11 steps every year 🤨

I would not do anything at this point and wait until the construction site is completed.
What does the manufacturer say about it?
Which exact model is it? Are they coated?

The manufacturer hasn’t said anything yet because I haven’t contacted them.

These are Diephaus concrete block steps. I believe the concrete was simply colored before pouring. It doesn’t look like it has any coating.
