Hi!
A new house has been built opposite the one I live in. Now, from that house, there is a clear view onto my balcony. I want to do something to block the view. I thought about installing trellises and growing climbing plants on them. Can anyone suggest climbing plants that grow quickly and also keep their leaves in winter?
Best regards, senor 😕 🙂

Yes, Virginia creeper is certainly suitable for a pergola as well.
As you said, Mara: If the masonry is suitable, then there is nothing to worry about. 😉
You can also overwinter Virginia creeper outdoors without any problem. If it is grown in a container, occasional fertilizing is necessary. A protective layer of brushwood around the base of the plant helps prevent frost damage. Compared to other plants, the roots require very little space, as this plant spreads extensively.
It is important to note that there are related species that may look very similar but are ornamental plants. The difference is that their berries are not edible!
The soil must not be acidic at all, as Virginia creeper cannot tolerate this.
