that's a tricky issue. You can definitely teach yourself, but I would advise against building an extension with just so-called "mail carrier half-knowledge." The profession of bricklayer is a skilled trade for a reason.
I am a bricklayer myself, but I could also teach myself how to lay and install gas lines and gas heating systems... however, I wouldn’t necessarily trust my own expertise in that area.
