I came across a great solution for our garden online, but I’m unsure about which material to use for building it.
The goal is to create a planter box about 250cm (98 inches) long and approximately 60cm (24 inches) deep, with a bench attached on one side. The bench should have a 160cm (63 inches) high wall at the back serving as a backrest and privacy screen. This wall is meant to extend in an L-shape to the left, with the shorter section of the L being around 130cm (51 inches) long.
How can I build something like this, and what materials should I use?
Y-Tong (aerated concrete blocks) isn’t really suitable for outdoor use. Would a masonry product like this be appropriate? Can it be smoothly plastered and then painted? Or is there a material that results in a smoother finish right away?
Pouring concrete is probably not an option since I have no idea how to source that much concrete 🙂
From the pictures, I estimate the stone thickness to be about 10 to 15cm (4 to 6 inches). What do you think?
Thanks very much for all your advice.

After that, you won’t need to plaster or paint, and you will have a perfect exposed concrete finish. You don’t have to make it 15cm (6 inches) thick, and if you do, place polystyrene in the middle to reduce the amount of concrete needed.
Hello,
we have planned something similar (integrated into a retaining wall). We will use the "Vanity" stones from the company KANN for this. If you google "KANN Vanity wall," you can also find a nice example. The stones have a fairly smooth surface, so they can be used as a backrest without plastering. However, the stones are not exactly inexpensive for this purpose.
