We would like to build a garden shed. It is slightly larger than 30 m³ (1,060 ft³) and therefore requires a building permit/planning permission, especially since we plan to use it as a living space and want to build it on a concrete foundation. We found a fairly affordable shed at a major garden shed supplier. The problem is that the authorities require all sorts of documents from sketches to structural calculations – which would make it quite expensive. Despite several inquiries, the supplier apparently has no interest in providing these. They only said that, based on their experience, most authorities are satisfied with just a product description. So either the authority is being very bureaucratic again, or the supplier is unwilling... The question is what can be done here? Should we have something custom made ourselves? But we don’t want to pay more for architects than for the entire building project (around 7,000 €).
Thanks and best regards

As annoying as this is for you now, properly functioning authorities should generally be welcoming to us.

Georgian201912 Oct 2021 16:44We also built a garden shed with a building permit / planning permission. Our garden shed supplier wanted €1,700 for structural engineering certificates and construction drawings that the building authority had requested. After consulting, I entered the measurements myself into the floor plan sketches and assembly plan. There was no official structural engineering report; the building authority accepted this.
