Hello, we currently have a boxed-in duct in the kitchen because of the bathroom above, but it completely disrupts our kitchen layout. The construction company definitely does not want to relocate the drainpipe in the exterior wall. I would prefer if the boxed-in duct comes down in the office instead, but that would be about 1 meter (3 feet) further back. Does anyone know how much flexibility there is here? Or does it really have to go straight down? (Moving the walls would make the room too small.) I’m curious to hear your opinions.

Hello,

I would also avoid installing a waste pipe in the exterior wall – this compromises the insulation and could even be at risk of freezing.

The possibility of running the waste pipe down through the office probably depends on the ceiling thickness – it must be ensured that the necessary slope is still achievable.

From my own experience (I converted the attic in my parents’ house), I would definitely advise against using 90° bends in waste pipes, especially from a toilet. We struggled with various blockages in these 90° bends. The situation only improved when we replaced each 90° bend with two 45° bends.

Best regards,

Dirk

Thank you, I will ask about the ceiling thickness then. Let’s hope it fits.
