Tobias57Hello everyone,
I own several IKEA Hemnes dressers with drawers, which have become increasingly difficult to open over time and sometimes squeak a bit. I suspect that after extended use, the sliding mechanism or the runners may need some maintenance.
Therefore, my question is: Are there specific lubricants that work particularly well for the drawer runners of IKEA Hemnes furniture? I am especially interested in products or substances that have proven effective in making opening and closing easier in the long term, without damaging or causing the runners to stick. Does anyone have experience with certain lubricants, such as silicone spray, lithium grease, or other products that are ideal for this type of wooden furniture with metal or plastic runners?
Thank you very much for your tips and advice!

Regarding the question about specific lubricants for IKEA HEMNES drawers, it should be noted first that these pieces of furniture are usually equipped with simple wooden runners or metal slides that run on plastic glides.
- Using a silicone-based spray is recommended because silicone is free of oils or greases that can attract dust and become sticky.
- Alternatively, a low-viscosity Teflon spray is suitable, offering low friction without becoming sticky.
- For wooden components, oil- or grease-based lubricants are generally not advised, as they can cause the wood to swell or become permanently sticky.
Regular cleaning of the guides before applying lubricant significantly improves effectiveness. A dry cloth or a soft brush is sufficient to remove dust and dirt.
In summary: Silicone spray is the preferred choice for IKEA HEMNES drawers, as it is both compatible and long-lasting, enhancing their function.

Silicone spray is the product of choice for IKEA HEMNES drawersI fully agree with this. Additionally, I would like to point out that the treatment should be done carefully. The drawer runners often consist of a combination of wood, metal, and plastic. Therefore, the following applies:
- Never use lubricants based on oil or grease, as these attract dust and dirt over time.
- Do not apply too much spray, as it can drip onto visible surfaces and cause stains.
- Before lubricating, be sure to remove the drawers and clean the runners thoroughly. For wooden parts, lightly sand with fine sandpaper if necessary to improve spray adhesion.
If the drawers squeak or stick a lot, it is also worth checking the screws and wooden slides to rule out mechanical problems.
Additionally, applying the spray every few months is sufficient with normal use. This keeps the HEMNES drawers running smoothly and lasting longer.
