Hello everyone, I’m considering buying a Kallax shelf, but I have vinyl flooring and want to protect it from scratches. So my question is: Are there any special soft casters or easy-glide pads for the Kallax that help protect the floor? I know the Kallax usually comes with fixed feet, but it would be convenient for me to be able to move it occasionally. Does anyone have experience with soft casters for the Kallax or know of suitable alternatives that protect vinyl flooring from wear without compromising stability?

There are indeed soft wheels made of rubber or thermoplastic that can be attached to the Kallax. It is important that they have a good load capacity and no sharp edges that could damage the vinyl flooring.

Hey, I tried something like this once! I got these wheels with a silicone coating, which feel really gentle on the floor 🙂. You can also easily slide the shelf without immediately risking screeching noises or scratches. Just make sure the wheels are firmly and securely mounted, otherwise it will be wobbly 😉!

A reasonable solution is polyurethane or thermoplastic wheels with a soft surface. These significantly reduce the risk of scratches on vinyl floors compared to hard wheels made of plastic or metal. Additionally, I recommend choosing wheels with a brake to prevent the Kallax from rolling away unintentionally. The load capacity should be at least 30 kg (66 lbs) per wheel to ensure stability.

Thanks for the tip, Cassandra. Do you know if these casters are compatible with standard Kallax feet, or would I need to get special adapters? Also, it would be helpful to know if the installation is complicated and whether the casters can be mounted without modifying the shelf.

Usually, simple caster wheels with screw threads are offered for the Kallax, so you need to replace the feet. Adapters are rare. Installation is usually quick; you remove the original feet and screw the casters on instead.
