ᐅ After my child drew on it with colored pencils, my KALLAX looks stained – any cleaning tips?

ElpeoHello everyone, I have the following problem: My KALLAX shelf from IKEA has some pretty unsightly, blotchy marks caused by my child using colored pencils. The color seems to have penetrated the material, so cleaning with a damp cloth has not been very effective so far. I assume the stains are from wax crayons or relatively oil-based colored pencils. My question is: What specific cleaning methods can I try to remove the stains as thoroughly as possible without damaging the surface of the KALLAX shelf? Are there any products or home remedies that are particularly suitable for this? I would be very grateful for tips and experiences, as I would prefer not to replace the shelf. Thank you in advance!

Nail polish remover (acetone-free) on a clothI can definitely agree with this tip. But please be gentle!
KALLAX isn’t exactly sensitive, but too much chemical can leave residues. If you use a cotton pad and don’t work too wet, it should work fine.
Otherwise, if the little artist strikes again, it’s better to wipe it off right away with a damp cloth, so the paint doesn’t become permanent 😉 😊
I always wonder why children are allowed to use wax crayons near white furniture. But well, that's how it is.
On the topic: Why immediately resort to solvents? Try dish soap with warm water and a brush with soft bristles. Often, that's enough if you scrub long enough.
I doubt that nail polish remover leaves no traces; to me, that sounds like a short-term solution with long-term consequences.

Maybe try dish soap and a damp sponge first, and if that doesn’t work, carefully use nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol. And for peace of mind: small scratches somehow make furniture look more charming 😉
