TasitraHello everyone, I am considering combining my IKEA Hemnes furniture with LED lighting to create more atmosphere and functionality. However, I am unsure how to do this best without affecting the appearance or having to carry out complicated modifications. Are there any proven methods or products to discreetly and appropriately integrate LED strips, spotlights, or other lighting ideas? I am especially interested in options for Hemnes display cabinets and wardrobes, as well as dressers. It would be great if you could share tips on suitable LEDs, power supply, and cable routing to ensure a tidy look without damaging the furniture. Thanks in advance!
I would recommend flexible LED strips that you can attach inside the furniture, for example with double-sided tape. For power supply, USB LED strips are a good option, as you can easily operate them via a USB port or power bank. It’s best to route the cables out the back and secure them with cable clips.
An important aspect is the choice of color temperature. For a cozy atmosphere, warm white LEDs (2700–3000 K) are suitable. For practical purposes, such as better visibility inside a wardrobe, neutral white (around 4000 K) can be chosen. Additionally, it is advisable to use dimmable LEDs to allow for flexible lighting adjustment. Installation on Hemnes furniture is usually straightforward, as the back panels often provide some space for cables. It is recommended to carefully measure everything with a tape measure before attaching the LED strips to avoid mistakes.
Hey, great idea with the LED lighting! A few months ago, I installed warm white LED strips inside my Hemnes display cabinet, attaching them along the upper edges. The light really makes the glass shelves shine and creates a very cozy atmosphere. Especially in the evenings, it’s a real eye-catcher! Tip: Use self-adhesive but high-quality LED strips, as they tend to hold better over time. Good luck, it’s a lot of fun 🙂

For interior lighting, PIR sensors can be installed, so the lights turn on automatically when the doors are opened. This saves energy and provides more convenience.
I love it when items are not only practical but also create a nice atmosphere – LEDs add a lot of color to the mix! 😄 If you're unsure about laying the cables, just grab some cable clips from the hardware store; they keep everything neat and can be removed later without leaving any residue. And an extra tip: for a cool look, you can use RGB LEDs and change the colors according to your mood! 🎨
