Hello everyone, I’d like to open a discussion on the best way to install Ikea Metod wall cabinets. Specifically, I’m interested in tips and tricks that go beyond the standard instructions and help save time, ensure precise alignment and mounting, and minimize the risk of damage. Important for me are recommendations on preparation, choosing the right tools, the procedure for securing the cabinets to the wall, and how to safely and accurately align multiple wall cabinets. Perhaps someone also has experience with special mounting kits or techniques that make installation easier. Thanks in advance for your expertise!

I can only confirm what has already been said, but I would also like to emphasize how important it is to carefully check the space above the cabinet for installations (power outlets, ventilation vents, etc.) in advance. This is especially crucial when combining multiple cabinets, as a well-planned approach before drilling is essential.

First mount the support rails as precisely horizontal as possible, then hang the wall cabinets.

This advice helped me a lot because the rails carry the main weight, allowing you to easily hang and fine-tune the cabinets afterwards. It is also important to screw into the correct wall anchors.

Thank you for the helpful feedback so far! A follow-up question: How do you handle cases where older walls consist of multiple different materials (for example, plaster over brick)? Do you skip using specially reinforced anchors, or are there proven methods to ensure that wall cabinets hold securely? I’ve also heard that certain mounting techniques can provide stable support for cabinets without requiring much force. Does anyone have experience with methods beyond the standard recommendations?

In old walls made of plaster and brick, it is recommended to combine pre-drilling, using appropriate anchors (e.g., universal anchors or heavy-duty anchors), and, if necessary, additional anchoring into the brick substrate behind the plaster.

A method often used is inserting metal profiles or short threaded rods into the wall, to which cabinet brackets are then attached. However, this requires extra effort and precise workmanship. For typical household installations, heavy-duty anchors with deep anchoring are usually sufficient if the load capacity is properly calculated.

For heterogeneous walls, always ensure a firm sublayer. If the plaster is crumbling, it is better to remove it and drill directly into the brick. For increased stability, metal anchors provide added security.

Regarding the question about resin, I would like to add that with older buildings, it is especially important to thoroughly inspect the wall. If the plaster already shows cracks or gaps, it makes sense to remove the affected area and, if necessary, plan the fastening on more solid material (e.g., brick).

Additionally, I always recommend ensuring load distribution by using longer dowels or expansion anchors when mounting heavy Metod wall cabinets.

Exactly, I tried this approach in my last project, and it really provided the cabinets with a lot of stability.
