I’m wondering how durable Ikea Brimnes furniture remains after several moves. Specifically, does anyone have experience with whether wardrobes, dressers, or beds from the Brimnes series remain just as sturdy and stable after multiple assemblies and disassemblies or transports as they were when first put together? I imagine that repeatedly loosening and retightening screws, or mechanical stresses during transport, could create weak points that might eventually affect stability.
I’m especially interested in whether users notice a significant decline in quality over the years, or if the furniture generally holds up well even after relocating multiple times. Details about material fatigue, loss of screws, or fit and alignment after several moves are particularly welcome.
I would appreciate it if someone could share their personal experiences with Brimnes furniture related to moving, and maybe some tips on how to best handle this to maximize the furniture’s lifespan.

It is important not to overtighten the screws and to handle the parts carefully during disassembly.
If you follow these tips, the stability will remain well maintained.

I’m mainly interested in whether users can expect a noticeable decline in quality over the yearsI completely understand your concern, as furniture definitely contributes to the overall comfort of a home. I personally own a Brimnes wardrobe that has been through two moves with me so far. I have noticed that sometimes the screws get slightly loose, which is a bit annoying. However, overall it remains quite sturdy and does not tip over.
What bothers me, though, is that the surface on some edges suffers slightly from repeated disassembling and reassembling. Maybe you should consider not taking the furniture completely apart during a move, if possible, and instead keep larger parts intact. This can help preserve both the material and your peace of mind.
What do you think? Are there certain Brimnes pieces you have to move frequently?
Basically, Brimnes is not the highest-quality Ikea range when considering long-term stability through many years and multiple moves. While the furniture is reasonably priced, the materials (mainly particleboard) tend to absorb moisture, which reduces their strength.
In my opinion, there are two key points to keep in mind:
- Check the screw holes for damage during each disassembly and reassembly and, if necessary, repair them with wood glue or repair kits.
- Furniture should be well padded and protected from stress during transportation, as impacts to the frame can significantly affect stability.
Only by doing this can you ensure a stable structure not just after the first assembly but over the years. Therefore, I would say it makes sense to thoroughly inspect the furniture after multiple moves and carry out any necessary repairs. This is often overlooked, and the material silently deteriorates.
