we are currently planning a house with a developer, and in the special requests catalog there is, among other things, the preparation for a video intercom system for €215 with the following description:
Supply and installation of preparation for retrofitting an intercom system with video function by the buyer as a DIY job. This includes video-capable wiring for a video intercom system, inside and outside, up to the distribution box in the basement.
I’m wondering if this isn’t quite expensive. Basically, it should just be an empty conduit with cable a) from the front door to the distribution box in the basement and b) from the distribution box in the basement to the intercom on the ground floor. Should I just order two empty conduits (= 2 x €65) and install the cable myself?
Second question: is it common for the intercom system’s technology to be located in the basement? Isn’t it usually integrated into the intercom unit if I buy one?
Thanks & regards

Well, it really depends on what is actually included... those 215 can be very expensive, but also quite affordable...
What does “video-capable” mean for your standard equipment? Is there CAT7 cable inside the installation conduit, or is it just doorbell wire thrown into the ground?
Without going into details, it’s hard to say much...
The technology is located where the rest of the equipment is... also, it depends on the intercom system... and there are a million different variations here...
