Hello,
I have an (older) rental building where I need to replace the hot and cold water meters as well as the heating meters for three units. The calibration period has expired.
Since only radio-based meters will be allowed starting in 2026, I want/need to install exactly those.
What surprises me is that there is almost no information available on this topic. Even my plumbing company has no idea how the connection of radio-based meters works and what to pay attention to.

The currently installed meters (cold/hot water) are capsule meters IST with QN 2.5 from Lorenz. The new meters must therefore fit on the existing base. I obtained a quote from Lorenz. Now I have to fill out a configuration file. I have the following questions regarding this:

1.) The meters communicate using the OMS standard. But which radio mode should I select, and what are the implications?

OMS-Funkmodus Anzeige mit Auswahloptionen T1 und C1 für OMS 3/Encr. Mode 5/7

2.) I also have to specify the telegram type. What would be a sensible choice here, and why?

UI-Screenshot Telegrammtyp-Auswahl mit Kurz Mittel Lang; Lang ausgewählt.

3.) As a default setting, I must select one of these three options. I understand “walk-by” so far, but what do the other two mean?

Benutzeroberfläche mit drei Optionen: Individuell, Walk-by (ausgewählt), Stationär

4.) After installing the radio-based meters, I will need a gateway to collect and send the data. This device must be capable of receiving the meter data. Can you recommend any devices, and what should I pay attention to?
5.) I get the impression that radio technology is not yet well established in the plumbing sector. I am concerned that I might invest in expensive equipment, have a lot of effort, and in the end, it might not work properly.
There are also metering service providers. They offer meter replacement, reading, and billing services. If I use such a provider, the heating heat meter and smoke detectors should also be managed by them. Do you have experience with this and can you provide recommendations?

Thank you very much for your support!

Yes, that’s how it is. At the moment, no one is seriously addressing this.

Since the costs are mainly borne by the tenants, I would always rely on this for multi-family houses. You can choose one of the large providers such as Kalo/ista/techem, etc., or smaller regional companies. There are actually listings sorted by postal codes available online. You’ll have to look it up yourself—posting links is not allowed here.
