ᐅ Double wire mesh fence with privacy screen mounted on L-shaped concrete blocks—feasible?

Good morning,

I have already read several threads on this topic, but every case is a bit different. As the headline says, I want to install a 1.8m (6 feet) fence with privacy screening on L-shaped concrete blocks. For this, I ordered various brackets (L-shaped with 12.5mm (0.5 inch) elongated holes) that are specifically designed for this purpose. Now, after reading other threads, I’m a bit concerned about the wind load. Originally, I planned to fix the brackets with 10mm (0.4 inch) heavy-duty anchors and also glue them in. Our L-blocks are 12cm (5 inches) thick and have been cast in concrete. I assume they should be strong enough. After what I’ve read, I would now use 12mm (0.5 inch) heavy-duty anchors. In addition, I would use two rows of a slightly wind-permeable privacy screen. Is this plan still too risky or feasible? The fence will be attached not only to the L-blocks but also extend a bit further. Would it help if I set posts every 1.25m (4 feet) instead of every 2.5m (8 feet) and cut the panels to fit?

Attached is a picture of the situation.

Thank you very much.

Why not just cover it with climbing plants right away, without the privacy screen?
How long does that take, and what does it look like?

Inside, everything will be greened 🙂 Of course, no one wants to look at a plastic wall, but we can live with it until the greenery grows tall enough.

Don’t say that. Plenty of people have to look at a plastic wall.

It depends on what you plant. Virginia creeper grows quite quickly and densely, ivy is similar, clematis varies. None of them spread much in width. Climbing roses also work.
Fruit bushes like raspberries also produce shoots quickly.

I personally also believe that a complete privacy screen is not necessary. It is usually enough if the line of sight is mostly interrupted so that you don’t feel like you are on display. Alternatively, you can place an opaque element with light greenery or a hedge in the critical areas and keep the rest open.

We also have the problem of having too little garden space. I would like it to be greener, but then we would be missing about 50-60cm (20-24 inches) right away.

What I’ve seen lately are wooden rhombus fences, often combined with other materials.

Usually 120cm (47 inches) of wood, then 60cm (24 inches) of glass or granite pillars, etc.

A few years ago we also used welded wire mesh fencing with posts, but somehow I still wasn’t satisfied.

A few years ago we also tried double wire mesh fences with stiff panels, but somehow I’m still not happy with the result.

It obviously looks great, but right now we don’t have the budget for it. Also, I already bought the fence earlier this year. 😀
Maybe a bit of background on why the fence and why now. On the ground floor, we only have external venetian blinds, and when it’s windy, they roll up and lock in place. In addition, there are quite large corner windows facing the street, which means that in the evening, when it’s stormy and we’re watching TV, anyone can see clearly inside. Of course, there is not a lot of foot traffic here, but the feeling is still uncomfortable. Looking ahead to the coming winter, when it stays dark for a long time, we wanted an immediate privacy shield. We will remove the privacy cover from the fence again as soon as the vegetation in front of it has grown tall enough. At the moment, I don’t see any other (affordable) option.

Opaque curtains? Pleated blinds? You’re not building a fence only to remove it later.
