wirsanieren20214 Jan 2023 20:21Hello everyone,
we are renovating a house built in 1986. The entire ground floor has yellow/beige Jura marble flooring, which will remain since the underfloor heating was installed as a floating system within it. However, we want to remove a wall to create an open plan living and kitchen area, so there will be a section of floor missing in the kitchen.
We now want to tile the kitchen (9m² (97 sq ft)). What kind of look would you choose? We are leaning towards gray tiles with a concrete appearance, but I’m unsure if that will match well. Also, the stairs going up are located opposite the kitchen and will need to be redone. Ideally, they should have the same tiles as the kitchen to avoid having too many different floor coverings, right?
I’ve attached a photo of the dining room – the wall on the right will be removed, and behind it is the kitchen where the floor would be tiled.
Do you have any ideas? I’m really struggling at the moment...

Any ideas?I would probably choose a “bold” color for the new kitchen floor. This way, both floors can stand out. The marble itself is very beautiful but quite subtle. A subtle gray next to it would be rather dull, so neither floor would really get the attention it deserves.Colorful terrazzo or really nicely colored tiles in a modern design (I don’t find the ones in the photo very appealing, but I can easily imagine the same concept executed well) or colored linoleum.

Costruttrice14 Jan 2023 22:49What is your interior design style? Are you leaning more toward a country/cottage look, modern, or minimalist? What kind of furniture do you have, and how will the kitchen fronts look? Will the doors remain dark? I think it’s important to know.
I don’t think a cool gray fits very well. I would probably stay within the warm color spectrum, either picking up the cream tone with matte tiles or the dark shade from the floor, whether it’s wood flooring, wood-look tiles, or brown tiles. I would choose something calm to go with it. But as I said, everything has to harmonize, so you also need to consider the furniture and overall style and base your choices on that.
The tiles in my example photos have a light marbling that would likely be too busy next to your floor; I was only referring to the basic color.

What is your interior style? Are you going for more of a country style, modern, or minimalist?
We have a Scandinavian style – lots of white, light gray mixed with warm wood tones.
What kind of furniture do you have, and what will the kitchen fronts look like? Will the doors stay dark?
The kitchen will be white and handleless with a light gray concrete countertop. The doors will be white.
Of the examples you showed, I like the first tile the best. But it should be completely smooth without any speckles in the pattern, right? That might actually fit quite well...

I can imagine a matte, solid color finish working well as a contrast to the smooth marble. Otherwise, it would feel too busy for me personally. It’s best if you get a few samples, because it also needs to match the white kitchen cabinets, and cream tones might be tricky.Similar topics
