Hello

We want to plant a roughly 45-meter (150-foot) long area with plants that provide privacy screening. We are considering Thuja Smaragd. They should be relatively low-maintenance and offer good privacy.

Do you have any other suggestions?

I’ll join in on the question.

Thuja always reminds me of cemeteries...
Choose a nice deciduous tree, such as beech. Although it is not evergreen, depending on the species, the leaves stay on for a long time. Alternatively, you can use Japanese photinia or privet. Both are evergreen.

Thuja is a plant that fits the generation of our grandparents.
Beech requires almost a beech-level qualification and a lot of energy to care for and prune properly.
We currently have a narrow-growing privet on one side, but it is very expensive.
If you have enough space, I would recommend summer-flowering hedge shrubs, combining several species and allowing them to grow (almost) freely.

If you have some extra money: I find boxwood hedges very attractive. They can be beautifully shaped and provide a nice green appearance.

Hello, if you want fast growth and greenery all year round, the best option would be to plant an ivy hedge with support for climbing. You can also plant clematis in between, which will climb up the ivy and it looks quite nice. Regards
