ᐅ Roller shutter without a stopper – what is the technical term?

JaiBee07Hello,
I happened to notice a item in my window quote called a stopper.
After some research, I found out that these are very ugly parts fixed on the outside of the roller shutter, used to detect the end position for the motor. Apparently, the motor recognizes it has fully closed by the increased torque.
I definitely don’t want these ugly parts on my roller shutter. However, there seem to be other solutions without stoppers.
What should I include in a request for quotation to make it clear to the supplier? Something like “electronic end position detection”?

The stoppers are only designed for manual operation using a cord. For motorized roller shutters, you do not need anything like this.
How confident are you in your statement?
I have definitely read that some roller shutter motors (e.g., Somfy Ilmo) detect their end positions by increased torque. When closing, they recognize it when they hit the frame, and when opening, when the stoppers engage.
And my offer also included electric roller shutters. So I’m not entirely sure about that.

The roller shutter stopper is only there to prevent you from manually pulling the shutter curtain completely into the housing.
Electric roller shutters should generally have adjustable end limits, at least when the window and shutter curtain are supplied together. I’m not entirely sure how this works with retrofit roller shutters.

Beyond that, there are electronic roller shutter motors. With simpler versions, you can set the upper and lower end points by pressing a button, and the devices also feature obstacle detection and blockage protection. More advanced are "self-learning" motors with fully automatic end point setting and monitoring.Of course, the price increases accordingly.
Ok, thanks for the feedback.
It’s just a bit strange since this is an offer for windows including electric roller shutters, not a separate retrofit.
Perhaps this is a characteristic of the Somfy Ilmo motors included in the offer.
It seems that without a stopper is more of a standard and does not need to be specified separately.
