ᐅ Would you like to have fences around your house or property, and if so, why?

I’m interested in your opinions on fences. Our previous house and property had no fences or boundaries, which we really liked. At the new house and property, unfortunately, the neighbors on both sides have fences, which we obviously have to accept. At the back, bordering the field, we’ll try to avoid putting up any fence, even if that means deer might occasionally stand on our property and nibble. ;-) At the front, facing the street, we definitely won’t install a fence unless it becomes absolutely necessary because strangers are parking on our property or dog owners are using it as a dog park, though I don’t expect that to happen.
What reasons do you have for putting up fences around your house or property, or why do you choose to go without? By the way, on our street, all the houses and properties are fenced, so it seems most people prefer it that way. Still, I “dare” to conduct a survey.
By “fence” I mean any kind of boundary, including moats with drawbridges, walls, etc.
At the moment, 100% are against fencing, but you know how surveys like this usually go. ;-)

Some people let their dogs run freely here. It’s fun when you haven’t noticed the "landmines" before mowing the lawn. Also, I like my grill, the patio furniture, and the decorations. I would like to keep these things, which unfortunately isn’t something to take for granted. A lot of items get stolen from gardens around here. Therefore, a fence or a fence with a really tall hedge and a locked gate is necessary.
Our new dog loves everything and everyone... so, whether we like it or not, we will have to fence the 850sqm (9,150 sq ft) area.
No fence, just a colorful hedge! We feel very comfortable with it!

Regarding dogs, I would trust the owners not to allow issues or to clean up after their pets. We’ll see if anything gets stolen in the new neighborhood; for now, we only have our old garden furniture. Oh, silly me—while writing to you, I realized that it doesn’t really help if only our old garden furniture isn’t stolen… new patio furniture might still disappear overnight. ;-) Maybe we should just attach little GPS trackers to our belongings outside.SumsumBiene schrieb:

Oberhäslich15 Apr 2022 09:13We have just over 3,000 sqm (approximately 32,300 sq ft). The front and back are still open since we are only at the beginning of the construction phase. At the front, there is a federal road, and at the back, a small side street and a field. My girlfriend wants a fence because of our youngest daughter, who is 3 years old, as she is concerned about the traffic. Since we plan to have a dog, a fence is necessary. It is definitely an advantage to be able to let the dog run freely on the property. The downside, of course, is the cost—about 50 m (165 feet) at the back and approximately 30 m (98 feet) at the front. Fortunately, most of the four neighbors already have fences.
