ᐅ Is a polycarbonate roof covering for a patio canopy noisy during rain?

Hello everyone,

We are currently planning a possible terrace roof and are wondering how loud a polycarbonate cover gets in comparison to glass during rain.

Our living room is directly adjacent to the terrace – the children's bedroom is just above it – and our bedroom is two floors above that.

Does anyone have a meaningful answer?

What kind of pleated blinds do you mean? Do you have a manufacturer I can check out or your own photos?

View through a glazed veranda with steel frame onto garden and neighboring houses.

Something like this, for example.
They are also available motorized, if preferred.

Also available in motorized version, if desired.

I also like them a lot – but they’re not exactly cheap.

About €200 per row.
€400 for electric.
In any case, cheaper than an awning.

Definitely cheaper than an awning.

But with poly opal, you basically don’t need any shading anymore – or did you choose clear?

No, we don’t get any shading either. We would have only needed that for glass.

At €6,600 for polycarbonate without shading compared to €16,550 for laminated safety glass plus an awning, the price was the deciding factor after all.
Noise wasn’t really a major concern for us either, but we’ll see how it turns out in the end.
Right now, we’re more worried that the roof might reduce too much light. Looking forward to it being installed in about 8 weeks.

The additional cost is quite steep. Is the laminated safety glass option using a different frame profile? Otherwise, nearly €10,000 extra for laminated safety glass seems a bit high to me. How large is the roof? Laminated safety glass is generally superior to polycarbonate when it comes to light quality, but obviously €10,000 is a completely different level. The question is, would you be able to convert later if you end up not being satisfied with polycarbonate in the long run?
