ᐅ Door and Door Frame Damage During Construction Phase – Is Protection Necessary?

Good morning,
my house will finally be built in January, and I am not sure whether the doors and door frames will be properly protected during the construction phase or if it is really necessary to protect them.
I can easily imagine that builders, carrying materials and tools, might bump into the corners of the doors and cause some damage.
I already wish everyone a nice weekend and look forward to your experiences.

MichaelH8219 Nov 2021 11:19For the exterior doors, I don’t really have any other ideas right now except to leave the factory-applied film on. For the interior doors, I might stick some styrofoam or something similar around the corners. I still need to come up with a better solution for that.

They are protected with plastic sheeting, and the front door panel is often a temporary construction door.
(Consortium) damages to the trade do not have to be accepted. If you are working with a general contractor, it is quite straightforward: simply report the defect during the handover, then it will generally be replaced or the fault properly corrected.

hampshire19 Nov 2021 12:39If there are doors installed, it’s a good idea to protect them. Accidents can always happen. It doesn’t help if doors usually come at the end, but for @MichaelH82, it is different for some reason.

It is what it is – when building a house, your nerves will get stretched at some point. Because you read so much, you mostly hear about bad experiences; that’s just how it is.
I’m going to have a calming tea now.
