ᐅ A new gas line installation in Berlin costs €5,000.

Hello everyone!
I bought a house with land on which a gas pipeline already runs (see image, blue line). Since the pipeline crosses the seller’s property and, for whatever reasons, they do not want this, a contract was made to relocate the gas pipeline. The old pipeline is to be cut off on my property and rerouted southwards to the street (see image, red line).

On the NBB Netzgesellschaft website, tiered flat rates for gas connection and piping can be found; for 60 meters that would be 2,600€ gross.

In my case, only a new pipeline is to be installed from the existing house connection across the property to the sidewalk. For this, I am supposed to pay almost double (5,100€ and 3,300€ without excavation work), even though less work is involved. According to an NBB employee, this is because my case is considered a relocation. Unlike a new connection, relocations receive less subsidy. This subsidy seems quite unclear and hard to understand to me, as the price is considerably higher and also differs from the estimate given by an employee. She previously said the price wouldn’t differ much from the information on their website. Has anyone had similar experience? If this cannot be changed, are there other, cheaper alternatives? Since NBB is the only company authorized to install pipelines, I cannot go to another provider. Possibly I could have someone else do the excavation work, but whether I would save much with 60 meters is uncertain. Thanks in advance.

The heating system and hot water supply would need to be completely replaced, including the heat pump system. I will be living alone in the house, so it probably won’t pay off in the foreseeable future...

You can get subsidies for everything. And gas/oil prices will definitely continue to rise.

Ten years ago, there were also subsidies for scrapping technically often perfectly functional vehicles when purchasing a new vehicle. Not everything that is somehow subsidized makes sense from a technical, financial, or ecological point of view. On the contrary, (government) subsidized measures and technologies almost always lack something when it comes to the free market.

The same applies to electricity. Strangely, it hasn’t gotten any cheaper, and since 2000, we have already seen a 100% increase.

If a renovation is basically necessary for installing a heat pump, the $13,000 for a new gas connection isn't that much anymore. After all, you have to heat the house somehow.

I would recommend talking to the seller to address their doubts and concerns.

Electricity tends to become cheaper over time compared to gas or oil. The surcharge for the Renewable Energy Act is gradually being phased out (I believe it :-) ). Besides, you can offset or at least significantly reduce electricity costs with a photovoltaic system. I have yet to hear of a gas or oil system paying for itself 🙂

Faith belongs in church; for everything else, there are numbers.

Ifs and coulds and woulds and shoulds...

... and what if the owner doesn’t want a photovoltaic system? Imagine that this system actually exists and in significant capacity. Then the house of cards quickly collapses, and the whole thing becomes very unattractive.

I’ll quote you yourself: "Faith belongs in church; for everything else, there are facts." Maybe it’s worth asking the builder if they can imagine having a photovoltaic system 🙂 That sustainable electricity is better and gas keeps getting more expensive shouldn’t be a matter of faith. You can already see that in the parties’ programs. And even Söder recently hugged a tree 😎
