Hello,
We are currently building a semi-detached house and will install a standard traditional doorbell.
Later, we want to replace it with a smart video doorbell.
Which smart video doorbell would you recommend? It should meet the following criteria:
No cloud storage – all data should remain within my own network.
The doorbell sound should ring as usual on the existing chime, and additionally ring on my phone and my wife's phone (it's enough if this works only when we are connected to Wi-Fi; it does not need to work when we are away).
The doorbell should continue to ring even if there is currently no Wi-Fi connection.
No monthly fees.
What is the legal situation? We probably won't be able to prevent the street from being recorded in the background. Is this a problem or illegal? The recording will only be temporary and only when someone rings the bell.

And to emphasize this even more, there is the popular saying, which actually comes from social media: "If you don’t have to pay anything [or way too little] for a product, you are the product" 🙂

Doorbird ALWAYS requires the cloud or an internet connection; it simply does not work without it.Is that really the case? There is a LAN-only mode, right? I haven’t tried it myself and it runs with an internet connection for me. But I thought it might be possible to operate it offline after the initial setup.

One that works offline (in case of internet outage),
uses the existing doorbell sound,
and calls me on my phone within the home network (mobile connection not required),
with no monthly fees or subscriptions.

DoorBird ALWAYS requires the cloud or an internet connection; without it, the device simply won’t work. Other systems need the cloud or other online services only for mobile ringing. Within the home network, most IP door intercoms can be called directly via SIP. Customer service told me something different back in 2019. I haven’t tested it with our DoorBird yet:
An internet connection is not absolutely necessary. The basic functions can be used. However, without an active internet connection, for example, no push notifications are sent, and you won’t receive firmware updates.
