I am currently focusing a lot on kitchen planning.
I am considering an integrated automatic coffee machine.
Do you have one, and would you choose it again?
Can you recommend a specific model or share tips on what to look out for?
And the most important question: how is maintenance and cleaning handled?
For example, does it need to be removed once a year for servicing?

Wow, I didn’t realize it takes such a long time to preheat. We usually just turn on the automatic coffee machine in the morning, and the cappuccino is ready quickly. Usually, that’s enough for the day, although my husband would like to have an espresso later on. From your description, it sounds like it might not be worth it for us.
@Shiny86 What bothers me about built-in appliances is the limited selection and the much higher cost. They look nice, but only if all built-in appliances come from the same series, which means there isn’t really any choice if, for example, the oven is already fixed. If a short warm-up time is important to you, you should look for an espresso machine with a thermoblock, which heats up much faster than mine. About 10-15 minutes and it’s ready. Alternatively, you could use a timer switch.
There are now very good portafilter espresso machines that take care of almost the entire preparation process. These combination devices grind, tamp, and froth the perfect milk. You basically only need to move the portafilter once. Cleaning requires much less effort compared to a fully automatic coffee machine.
The only downside is the investment of around 1500 Euro (approx. $1600) and the need for good quality beans, costing at least 20 to 30 Euro per kilogram (9 to 14 dollars per 2.2 pounds). My beans come from Florence; I have never found better ones.

Of course, it needs to be cleaned and descaled regularly, just like any other coffee machine.Could you describe the cleaning process? How often and how thorough should it be? Does someone need to come once a year?

Can you describe the cleaning process? How often and how thorough? Does someone need to come once a year? No, no one needs to come. Basically, it's the same as with any fully automatic machine:
- Descale after every x cups and run a cleaning cycle after every y cups, roughly once a month with about 5–10 cups per day
- Regularly remove the drip tray and clean it in the dishwasher
- Regularly remove and wash the brew unit
