Hello dear forum,

my name is Alex and after quietly following the discussions for some time, I have finally decided to register here. Since my single-family house is already in the shell phase and we plan to move in on April 1, 2020, we are currently thinking about a practical and stylish design for the outdoor area...
our main concern is the positioning of the terrace, which should face more towards the main garden instead of the direction shown in the plan.
The next question is how large the terrace should be. There should also be enough space later for a pool.
Since the house already has clear, simple lines, I want the garden design to be a bit more daring. That means that more playful shapes and softer forms could be integrated here. So far, we have not been satisfied with the proposals from the local landscape designers.

I would really appreciate your tips and suggestions.
Best regards
Alex

For the costs, you can roughly estimate about 10% of the house price

Wow...

That’s why I’m going to buy a mini excavator and do it myself. But I’ll continue to share my thoughts here, if that’s okay.

That’s also too many plants and too much work for me!
I can already see myself buying a huge, mature weeping willow for 6,000 euros and fencing the entire property around it.
My plan would be to avoid heavy planting on the south side and instead create a privacy screen using grasses combined with posts.
I need the privacy screen on the west side and around the corner toward the north.

10% of the house cost is always relative.
On average, though, it usually turns out to be about that, from what I have researched.

I’m following this discussion quite closely as we will also soon start with the landscaping. I have now requested a complete garden design including plants, fence, etc., but I’m still waiting for a response.
I would also be very interested in more detailed information about the costs. Unfortunately, I can’t make much sense of the 10% house cost figure. What do you include in house costs?

The 10% is, of course, a guideline or average value. It can sometimes escalate significantly beyond that. However, many say that the costs of the entire construction, including ancillary building costs, can be considered here. I have now received the third quote, and all were within the range of plus or minus 5,000.

I can't imagine that a flat rate can be applied regarding house costs, as there are many factors involved. Starting with the size of the plot...

For 5,000€ you get all the marked plants included and planted, plus 2 terraces?

That’s exactly what I wrote!
When estimating the construction costs for a house, you can also roughly state the price per square meter. There is essentially no upper limit, depending on the features and finishes...
Just try googling “costs for garden landscaping.” You’ll find plenty of information there.
Whether the house has a basement does not affect the garden. That’s why there are naturally some variations, which in my case are about ±5000 euros.
