Hello,

we are still at the beginning of the planning process.
Unfortunately, we have a rather narrow lot, so there is only 10 m (33 feet) available in width for the house.
Additionally, the attic is to be converted into living space for the children.
We have now received the first design, where the roof unfortunately has a pitch of 40 degrees in order to provide enough space in the attic.

Question: Does anyone else have a bungalow with a 40-degree hipped roof and could possibly send Emir a photo?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards

That is 34°, approximately:

So far, everything looks fine up to 35 degrees, but I have often seen bungalows where the roof had a really unappealing height... I’m afraid that at 40 degrees it might start to look unattractive as well, so I would like to see a realistic picture.

Not attractive. To be clear, it is ugly. If the temperature is 40 degrees Celsius (104°F), then no hip roof, but a classic gable roof instead.

I doubt anyone has built that.
Here’s a simplified sketch, but you probably have something like this in your own design already:

House with dark gray, pyramid-shaped roof and gray walls on grassland under a blue sky.

Small gray house with dark hipped roof, standing on green grass under a blue sky.

The roofer would be happy.
Seriously, it doesn’t look good. Even with a gable roof, I wouldn’t go over 35°.

You either need space or you don’t. If you do, then you wouldn’t want to reduce the usable attic space with a hip roof.
