we are about to buy furniture for the nursery.
Which pieces of furniture have you been happy with?
Where did you purchase them?
Another question: changing table directly in the nursery or in the bathroom? Or both?
Thanks and best regards

What I can warmly recommend is RS furniture, or in southern Germany, I believe it’s known as moebeleum or something similar. They offer solid wood furniture, sometimes at reasonable prices (this also applies to children’s furniture, especially when compared to nursery furniture manufacturers). Additionally, the designs are very well thought out. For example, the crib we have from them includes a side panel with a low exit. The changing dresser has a detachable changing top, so it can be used later as a regular dresser.
Regarding the bathroom or nursery, of course, it depends on the situation. We arranged it so that the changing dresser is in the nursery, and in the bathroom, we simply placed a wooden board over the bathtub (there wouldn’t have been enough space for a full changing dresser there). This setup works perfectly for us!

The changing table in our home can be converted into a regular chest of drawers, so it is placed in the children's room. We are satisfied with this and the crib from Welle Möbel.
For us, visiting the furniture store and then ordering from Möbel-günstiger.de has proven to be effective in several cases. I don’t even bother negotiating price differences in the furniture store...

Changing tables are usually attachments for a standard dresser. Honestly, you don’t really need them. You can just use the floor, a rug, sheepskin, or whatever you have. That way, there’s no risk of falling.
We also had a heated radiant lamp, but it was never used.
We struggled a lot with choosing furniture. The big furniture stores only had cheap junk. Eventually, we ended up at a specialty store and bought from Paidi, but we were disappointed with the first children’s room delivery. “Made in Germany” is unfortunately just a label. We had to return the furniture several times.
Due to a lack of alternatives, we also bought the second room from Paidi, with the same problems.
In hindsight, I’d say only buy furniture and other equipment for babies or children when you really need it. Too much money is wasted on things you think you’ll need but end up not using—whether it’s furniture, clothes, or toys.
Especially small items costing 20-40€ (about 20-40 USD) are generously gifted from all sides.

In my opinion, you need warm water for diaper changes. Whether you want to carry a bowl of warm water into the nursery several times a day is up to you.
In the bathroom, you need a platform where you can dry and dress your child in a way that protects your back after bathing or showering.
In our apartment, we had the washing machine in the bathroom with a cover on top, which served as the changing pad. (No, spinning is not a problem.)
Here in the house, we have a Malm from Ikea with attachments for the top (from classified ads). Practical and inexpensive.
By the way, the diaper pail from Chico is worth the investment...
Since we don’t trust those (very) expensive sets from baby stores (cheapest particleboard, but nicely color-coordinated in brown, cream, and taupe, ridiculously 1200€ (around $1300) for the set), we bought a used set on classified ads. Cabinet, shelf, and dresser, solid wood, 50€ (around $55) with self-pickup. Pink. 14 years old. The cabinet and dresser are large enough to hold bigger and enough clothes. Nursery turned into a children’s room.
The crib is from Amazon for about 100€ (around $110) with slatted sides, mattress from Aldi Nord.
We borrowed a bedside crib for the short term.
A quick note about my baby’s behavior: She slept with us for the first days and weeks, then in the bedside crib, then in the baby crib in the bedroom, and after about a year or so, in her own room. Except on weekend evenings after 6 pm, when she comes to cuddle, or if she is sick, then she stays with us.
Your baby/toddler will not spend time in their room, neither for sleeping nor playing. Your mother-in-law may tell you that it’s not good for the child’s well-being if they don’t have their own room, but that is nonsense. So you can comfortably take care of the room in about six to nine months.
By the way, Lidl has great organic cotton bodysuits in plain colors. That’s well known, so you need to be early to get them.
