Hausbauenxx29 Oct 2018 13:30Hello,
we are planning to build next year and already have a plot of land.
We have drawn our floor plan ourselves (basement, ground floor, first floor, garage, terrace, etc.). We have also decided on window and door sizes and sketched the exterior view.
We plan to visit an architect next week so they can develop our plan.
What decisions should be made by then? What questions can we expect?
- Heating system?
- Placement of power outlets / light switches?
Thank you very much

Leave the plan at home and write down the room program. A professional is better than an amateur, and you show respect to a trained expert by trusting that they will make the best use of your plot.
Or do you think you know the common measurements of bricklayers, bricks, and standards (DIN)?

- Heating?
- Where to place outlets / light switches? None. You are talking about the initial consultation with a professional who will probably accompany you for the next two years of your life.

None. You are talking about the first introductory meeting with a professional who will probably be involved in your life for about two years. I hope you interpret the written word correctly as well. If you contact a shell builder in January, they will schedule capacity for 2020 and not earlier. That means you will definitely not start in 2019. I requested a quote last September with completed plans, and construction only began two weeks ago.

2. We designed the plan exactly as we envision it, over a long period of time (redrawn again and again). We will not have a new plan drawn up.
Since he is a distant acquaintance, he will bill by the hour, and the more prepared we are, the easier it will be for everyone.
After that, we will assign all work ourselves or mostly do it ourselves.

Bold undertaking... If you think that the placement of light switches is the most important topic during the first meeting with the architect, it seems you are not very familiar with the subject.
I would like to see the plan first – then one can say whether you can just go ahead with the architect or if you should rather follow the advice of ypg. (no offense)

Since he’s a distant acquaintance, he will charge by the hour, and the better prepared we are, the easier it will be for everyone.
Afterwards, we will handle all the contracting ourselves or do most of the work ourselves. Well, I’m curious to see what he thinks of your plan! Has he already seen the draft?
We have often seen plans here that were supposedly ready for approval but were mostly just nonsense.
