ᐅ Is a ceiling-mounted extractor fan sufficient? Are affordable units reliable?

Hello everyone,
After the insolvency of our general contractor and extensive defect rectification, we are slowly starting to plan again in all directions (the shell construction has already begun). Unfortunately, the budget has become tight, and we need to see if we can maintain our plans. One of many (costly) considerations is:
Can we manage with a ceiling-mounted cooker hood? (Recirculation or vented option is still open)
- The kitchen is separated from the living/dining area by a 1.76m (5 ft 9 in) double sliding door
- Ceiling height is 2.51m (8 ft 3 in)
- The kitchen countertop will be around 90cm (35 inches) high
- A soffit of about 30cm (12 inches) height is planned below the ceiling
- The cooking station is (more or less) in the middle of the room
The cooker hood would therefore need to cover about 1.30m (4 ft 3 in).
Could you give me advice on whether this reliably works at all and, if possible, if there are any "affordable" devices suitable for this? (We probably won't be able to see the kitchen designer for a few more weeks)

There is some clever regulation that prohibits placing water fixtures directly next to electrical or cooking appliances. In your design, they are positioned directly face to face. A conscientious electrician might refuse to make the connection. Perhaps someone else has more details.
The design itself can probably be described as "custom."

We demolished everything down to the foundation walls and started fresh from there. Respect.

The layout is not up for discussion. We have already debated that in various forums. What harm could it do to find some suggestions for improvements here as well?

An electrician with professional responsibility might refuse to make the connection. Maybe someone else has more details. If that is the case and neither our kitchen fitter, nor the architect, nor our electrician question it, that would be quite serious. THAT would be the only reason to completely scrap the plan.
But what about the range hood? Because that is supposed to be the main topic here...

Respect. Giving up was not an option – otherwise, we’d be just as broke now, but without a house...

What harm can it do to look for improvements here as well?We have already discussed this topic extensively among experts, as I initially couldn’t imagine it either. (The suggestion came independently from a kitchen fitter and a kitchen showroom.) After that, we spent several hours in (two) different kitchen showrooms looking at these kinds of kitchens to see if such a solution could work, and now we can imagine it (very) well.
If anyone has good suggestions, feel free to send them to me via private message/email, but here it should only be about finding a powerful/affordable extractor hood...
Oh, and the Novy Pureline series makes a good impression!

Unfortunately, I don’t have any documentation for that. I had to learn this from the contractor while installing our last kitchen.
His conscience only went as far as giving a warning, not to stopping work 🙂 Thanks a lot for the tip! We’re now dealing with the mess so-called experts in construction can cause, so of course I’m all ears when it comes to this kind of advice.
