ᐅ Failed the blower door test, should we start troubleshooting?

Hello everyone,

our blower door test showed a result of 2.3 negative. It seems the contractors did not do a proper job. I want to start searching for leaks myself now. Coordination with the contractors is ongoing but takes too long. Unfortunately :-(

I could borrow a simple fog machine. I would also need a fan. Would a wind machine that you put in a small window and seal off be enough? They achieve about 700 m³/h (410 CFM).

It is meant to be just a rough leak detection. After that, a professional should come again.

Are there any tips from the experts here?

Uh... according to your previous questions, you should have already moved in.
The blower door test is done before installing the drywall... before!
... so that any leaks in the vapor barrier can be repaired.

Best regards in brief

Yes, we are already living in the house. Allkauf Haus is staying out of it here; we have now contacted the blower door testing company directly. The Allkauf Haus site manager visited once and approved the vapor barrier, although he just walked through the house and didn’t really check the sealing areas carefully. He didn’t say anything else. But this is typical of Allkauf Haus as far as we are concerned.

Subject to a deeper understanding of your contract situation: consult a specialized construction lawyer, have a defect notice written, set a deadline (the lawyer will do this), then proceed.

Have you already paid everything?

You probably won’t be able to find the gaps unless you dismantle the drywall panels. I would say: Most likely, almost everything was done incorrectly.
