Hello everyone,

our blower door test showed a result of 2.3 negative. It seems the contractors did not do a proper job. I want to start searching for leaks myself now. Coordination with the contractors is ongoing but takes too long. Unfortunately :-(

I could borrow a simple fog machine. I would also need a fan. Would a wind machine that you put in a small window and seal off be enough? They achieve about 700 m³/h (410 CFM).

It is meant to be just a rough leak detection. After that, a professional should come again.

Are there any tips from the experts here?

Does fault finding not take place immediately after the test? You can actually feel the leaks in the pressure itself! The site manager should also be present, along with a responsible tradesperson.

The inspector only mentioned that there were too many issues without specifying them in detail. He didn’t actually conduct a thorough search. It was a Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM. It just felt like he wanted to go home.

Hello

The defects will be repaired during the testing phase.
This is usually not the inspector’s responsibility but that of the tradesperson.

It is pointless for you to take action on this yourself now.

I assume you are building the house with a general contractor (GC)?
In that case, it is not your responsibility to locate the leaks.
However, you should make sure that something is done, and possibly request a statement from the construction manager.
