Hello everyone,
we are now starting to seriously plan the carport and I’m wondering what the real downsides of a DIY store carport are.
About a month ago, we assembled two garden sheds from a DIY store and so far we are not disappointed – of course, the walls are a bit thinner, the wood is still drying, etc., but they look nice (thanks to paint) and serve their purpose.
Does anyone here have a carport from a DIY store? I often read about carport prices beyond 8,000€ – at the DIY store, the kit costs maybe 1,500€ (already a somewhat higher quality one).
So far, we have contacted a master carpenter who, despite an initial meeting, never provided a quote.
Good luck!

We have a carport from Skanholz purchased at a home improvement store and assembled it ourselves. It has been standing for 4 years now and still looks just as good as when we first built it. Overall, we paid about 2000 euros and I don’t see why anyone should pay more for it.
Best regards,
Sabine

Best regards,
Sabine We need to be careful when discussing prices here. Otherwise, it's like comparing apples and oranges.
Is it a single carport? Double carport? Does it include a storage room? Side cladding? What kind of roof covering? What type of paneling on the roof side? What wood thickness? What wood species? There are significant differences in these aspects. And often, the smaller details make the difference in price.
For the carport we finally assembled, prices ranged widely from 6000 to 13,000 euros, even though the features and quality were quite similar and comparable.
We will choose a custom-made solution from a local installation company. Including installation, connection to the sewer system or cistern = €7,300 for a carport with a storage shed measuring 9m x 4.50m (29.5 ft x 14.8 ft). We will handle the painting ourselves after the installation.
I did some research... The Rosenheim 2 carport from Mr. Gardner measures 7.60 m * 3.6 m (25 ft * 12 ft) including a storage shed and costs 2400 € – excluding roofing. For the roofing, you would need 7 sheets of 5 * 1 m (16 ft * 3 ft) at 70 € each, so about 500 € extra, plus anchors... that would bring the total to around 3200 €.
It is made of laminated timber and has a wooden roof.
Alternatively, you could choose a cheaper option for a total of 1400 € (for example, the Nuremberg model) with dimensions of 5.1 m * 3.6 m (17 ft * 12 ft) and then place a separate shed behind it for 600 €?
