Hello to the building community

For a planned new build (single-story on a slab foundation, solid 36.5cm (14.4 inches) walls with a pitched roof, living area approx. 110sqm (1184 sqft), 2 persons) the question of all questions.

Which features do I need in addition to a gas condensing boiler (the new development area is connected to the gas network) to meet the Energy Saving Ordinance 2016 and KFW 55 standards?

Best regards, Portoalegre

Insulation all around beneath the slab at the wall and in the roof, otherwise maybe a central controlled ventilation system with heat recovery for the living space—that should be enough as long as the masonry and windows don’t have extremely poor values.

For KfW 55 with gas?

36.5 cm (14.4 inches) walls (possibly even monolithic?) and then trying to achieve gas KfW 55 standard?
That won’t be easy. A mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery will be necessary, along with a large area of solar thermal collectors to balance the figures. It definitely won’t make financial or energy sense this way...

Hello,

for the consultation, design, and calculation of a KfW 55 house, you need to involve an energy consultant (Energy Efficiency List). To achieve a KfW 55 house, regardless of the technology or energy sources used, targeted building physics and technical system measures must be implemented. In addition to the high insulation standard already required by the Energy Saving Regulation 2016, close attention must be paid to thermal bridge verification during implementation, as this often holds unused potential.

The second step is to select the building systems. Besides a gas condensing boiler, a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery and possibly solar panels are often planned. An alternative option is a gas heat pump, which may eliminate the need for additional measures such as heat recovery; however, it currently involves high investment costs on its own. Therefore, consultation with an energy consultant or planner is essential!
