Hello,

I’m interested in knowing your current daily heating consumption.

Please provide it either in kWh for heat pumps or in m³ for gas, along with the room temperature, heated area, and energy standard (e.g., Energy Saving Ordinance 2016, KFW70, KfW 55, etc.).

I’m curious about your consumption at the current temperatures.

I would have to check, but I think it’s rather less. However, I believe our maximum temperature was only around -12°C (10°F), and the heat pump naturally becomes less efficient the lower the temperatures get.

After adjusting for the estimated proportion of hot water usage, I calculated the following share of heating demand for the months October through January:
October – 6.9%
November – 21.9%
December – 29.45%
January – 41.6%

Even if your overall temperatures were warmer, I would still assume a similar distribution. In other regions of Germany, the weather is roughly comparable in relative terms (not absolute values). Since your data covers mid-October to the end of January (and mine even starts from early October), the share for January should actually be higher – so probably more than 1000 kWh, based purely on the data. Of course, I have no objection if your specific January value is lower, but “I think” is not a reliable basis for comparison.

Ok, I just checked. According to the report, we used about 950 kWh for heating and hot water in January...

Hello everyone, I also checked. In January, the energy consumption for heating and hot water was 700 kWh. Here in Hamburg, it was warmer than in other parts of the country.

Best regards

Quite interesting what an old oil heating system consumes. Heating system from 2000. Heated area 430 sqm (4630 sq ft), of which 130 sqm (1400 sq ft) is residential, the rest is commercial or used otherwise. House from 1979, double-wall construction, later upgraded to triple glazing. Annual consumption in 2016 was 6078 liters (1605 gallons). The price was 3000 including tax. Dividing 3000 by 430 gives about 7.10 per sqm (0.66 per sq ft). Progress is therefore very slow.

Here is the gas consumption for a 156m² (1680 sq ft) house built in 2011. There is no KfW rating since it was built without it. Temperatures ranged between 20-21°C (68-70°F). 2078 kWh consumed in January alone. That amounts to just under €110 plus tax. I can’t complain, even though it was a record month. Two occupants.

20°C (68°F) is naturally quite cool, but this clearly shows that as the temperature drops, the efficiency of the air-to-water heat pump decreases disproportionately, causing energy consumption to rise.
