In the next few weeks, our carport with an attached shed will finally be installed.

The shed will finally give me space and storage for tools and garden equipment.

Regarding furnishing the shed—workbench, cabinets, shelves, and similar items—does anyone have current experience with buying ready-made furniture or is it better to build it yourself?

Honestly, I don’t want to spend several thousand euros on furnishing. When I see that a 1.80 m (6 feet) workbench with two drawers already costs around 700€.

Used items from online classifieds are also only partial solutions because the dimensions vary and then everything needs to be adjusted.

I was thinking of using a series of inexpensive dressers or base kitchen cabinets like those from I**A, R***r, and similar stores, and putting a solid wood tabletop on them. Of course, I would reinforce the cabinets, drawers, and shelves myself as needed.

I don’t have heavy equipment, just typical household tools like cordless screwdrivers, a small angle grinder, and similar.

The advantage is that I could use several cabinets from the same series, all matching or having a similar appearance. It wouldn’t look like a random collection from the curbside.

Or is there another shop or manufacturer with a good price-performance ratio? So far, my experience with the large online retailer starting with A has mostly been mixed reviews, as many products turn out to be cheap imports from China and so on.

I bought a frame from A and screwed a solid beech wood panel onto it... About 130€.

My planning completely went off track,
wall shelves 10 meters (33 feet) long for my stuff.
And when I was done, half of it was filled with flower pots and such, with the comment, "It's our shed after all," 😳 😱 😉

I used whatever wood was available. It now looks like a cross between a workbench and a desk, but it serves its purpose, was inexpensive, and is self-built :p

Sounds familiar when it comes to our garden shed.

That’s why we are getting another shed now. Sometimes I wonder who in our household is the actual hoarder when it comes to tools and leftover wood for building projects.

Right now, I’m also building a covered area attached to the garden shed for the chainsaw, since after a weekend course, chainsaw carving has become a new hobby.
