In the next few weeks, our carport with an attached shed will finally be installed.

The shed will finally give me space and storage for tools and garden equipment.

Regarding furnishing the shed—workbench, cabinets, shelves, and similar items—does anyone have current experience with buying ready-made furniture or is it better to build it yourself?

Honestly, I don’t want to spend several thousand euros on furnishing. When I see that a 1.80 m (6 feet) workbench with two drawers already costs around 700€.

Used items from online classifieds are also only partial solutions because the dimensions vary and then everything needs to be adjusted.

I was thinking of using a series of inexpensive dressers or base kitchen cabinets like those from I**A, R***r, and similar stores, and putting a solid wood tabletop on them. Of course, I would reinforce the cabinets, drawers, and shelves myself as needed.

I don’t have heavy equipment, just typical household tools like cordless screwdrivers, a small angle grinder, and similar.

The advantage is that I could use several cabinets from the same series, all matching or having a similar appearance. It wouldn’t look like a random collection from the curbside.

Or is there another shop or manufacturer with a good price-performance ratio? So far, my experience with the large online retailer starting with A has mostly been mixed reviews, as many products turn out to be cheap imports from China and so on.

Ikea even offers metal fronts, which are often used for outdoor kitchens.

There are heavy-duty shelving units available for almost nothing. Brand new. Then connect them with a worktop. Underneath or combined with metal rolling cabinets from Ikea. You can really get creative here. The solid worktop will be the most expensive part.
Show us when it’s finished.

Thanks to the shed, I finally have space and storage for tools and garden equipment.
Then your first project could be expanding the shed, or what else is the tool being used for.
Workbenches, shelves, and so on exist to help keep things organized.
Measure, plan, get materials ranging from cheap to expensive, build, and you're done.

My husband also bought a used kitchen and then installed a countertop from a home improvement store. He reinforced the cabinets where needed and added a used Tego metal shelving unit with a pegboard, where all the tools are neatly organized. It fits perfectly. 🙂

Assemble the Toom half-height heavy-duty shelving unit. Also suitable for repotting and similar tasks.
