ᐅ Wood slats on exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS) (used partially, for design purposes)

Hello,

For design reasons, we plan to partially cover the EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish System) facade with wooden slats, possibly around 10% or less of the surface. The slats should be a maximum of 10cm (5 inches) wide, spaced 5cm (2 inches) apart, and installed up to a height of 2m (6.5 ft). The length can be up to 3m (10 ft).

1. Since a steel substructure will likely need to be attached to the exterior wall (aerated concrete blocks + EIFS), could this cause issues with thermal bridging?
2. What type of wood is recommended (it can of course be stained) and how should it be protected from weather exposure?
3. What distance is required between the wooden slats and the EIFS? Since the facade will be painted in the future, it would be ideal if the wooden slats or the entire substructure could be removed.

Thank you.

Thank you very much for the responses.

This is a new build. External thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) can basically be omitted; I was considering 36.5 cm (14.4 inches) Ytong blocks. The goal is to integrate the wooden battens (maybe 10% is an underestimate). So it’s not a rhombus cladding. The spacing between the wooden battens is already set (the question is how much exactly), below is just a sketch. I am more concerned about what will happen with the soiling of the exterior wall (the area beneath the wooden battens).

Sketch of a wall construction with 36.5 cm (14.4 inches) Ytong blocks, mortar joints, and wooden battens on the right.

Please show the new build and where this is supposed to be designed.

The goal is to integrate the wooden battens (maybe 10% is an underestimate). So, it is not a rhombus cladding. The spacing between the wooden battens already exists (the question is exactly how much); below is just a sketch. I have to say, the whole post raises a lot of questions for me or leaves me puzzled.
ETICS: either you build it that way or with Ytong...
Why is the spacing already there?
Dirt accumulation on the exterior wall? Under the wooden battens?

If you want something like this, it’s best to discuss it with the general contractor or the installer; the structure needs to be included in the energy efficiency calculations.
For clarification: this is how we have it:

Modern house front with tree in gravel garden, gray front door, illuminated entrance and garage on the right.
