Hello everyone.

I am quite inexperienced with this topic but would like to avoid buying something unsuitable. Which satellite dish would you recommend?

Thank you very much

I would choose an 80cm (31.5 inches) dish.

Make sure it is made of aluminum. A steel dish can rust faster than you might expect. I saw this with a neighbor whose dish had to be replaced after just a few years.

We use Fuba, Televes, and Kathrein. I personally have a Kathrein dish on the roof; it is more expensive but virtually indestructible. The one my parents have is 30 years old, and there is no sign of corrosion.

For multiswitches, I also use Kathrein, and none have failed so far (except when struck by lightning). Unfortunately, I haven’t had good experiences with Televes multiswitches.

You need to be careful with red dishes, as the red color often doesn’t match the roof color. I usually prefer anthracite because it contrasts clearly with the roof color.

A round one
Mine is square. It’s simply placed on the garage and isn’t visible from below because I didn’t want another mast on the roof. It’s a Selfsat antenna, which proved reliable at the previous house and still looked like new after 12 years. I have only experienced loss of signal once, but that was during an almost apocalyptic event. Snow doesn’t really affect it either.

The DigiDish 45 from Technisat is supposed to be a decent satellite dish despite its 45cm (18 inches) size.

If you install the antenna yourself, you should definitely make sure to use appropriate lightning protection.

@untergasse43 Have you always had good reception with the Selfsat, or were there issues during bad weather, for example? It’s also on our "maybe" list, but I’m uncertain about the reception quality for regular use (maybe up to 2 hours of TV per week at most).

We have everything from Kathrein.

Especially the dish with the matching LNB and masts is fantastic! Hidden cable routing, and so on!

When I see the cheap models our neighbors have... Ours is in a completely different class! For the small extra cost...
